Beavers, Cubs and Scouts visit to RAF Cosford Museum 2025

In October we enjoyed a fantastic day out at the RAF Cosford Museum, thanks to the generous support of the Astwood Bank Royal British Legion. We were delighted that several Legion members were able to join us for the trip, making it a special day of learning, discovery, and shared experiences across the generations.
Around 35 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts took part in the visit, exploring the museum’s impressive collection of aircraft, tanks and military technology. The excitement began the moment we arrived, as even outside the museum there were planes to admire.
One of our Scouts, Tom, told us about his day:
“When we arrived at RAF Cosford we already started to see some planes outside. As we went inside, the first thing we saw was a bunch of planes and right next to us was a tank – it was really, really cool because I really like planes. There were all sorts of things: jets, tanks, and missiles. For me, one of the highlights of the day was seeing the BAC Lightning, which was the first single-seater supersonic plane. Then Sally gave us a task sheet which was really fun. After that we went into a lecture on how to fly and learned that you can fly a type of plane called a glider at the age of 14, which was fascinating. We even went inside a real transport plane and sat in the cockpit! Later, we visited another hangar with smaller planes like the Spitfire and tried out the 4D and VR simulators. It was an amazing day!”
Everyone came away inspired and full of enthusiasm after a day of discovery and adventure. We’re extremely grateful to the Astwood Bank Royal British Legion for sponsoring the trip and for joining us on the day - it made the experience even more special for our young people.
